Who are you?David and Tule Cox, Missionaries to Mexico City, Mexico since 1984. David grew up in a fundamental, separated, independent Baptist Church in Charleston South Carolina. Tule was Catholic growing up in Mexico. She had influence from Christians in her early years, and later she accepted the Lord as her Savior. We are independent, Fundamental Baptist in our position. David is a graduate of Bob Jones University, with a B.A. in Christian Missions, Greek Minor, M.A. in Bible, M.A. in Educational Supervision and Administration (all from Bob Jones University). Tule is a national Mexican.
David's Testimony,
early church experiences, education, family, etc. What specifically are you doing in Mexico City?We feel our call is to evangelism and church planting. We started our first church in 1987 in the southwest corner of Mexico City, and left it in 1994. It is still going today with a national pastor at its helm. We started our second church in 1995 in the northwest corner of the city, and in 1999 we had some financial problems when my father passed away, we had to sudden leave the field to raise more support. That church we left in the hands of a national, who led them to merge with an established separated Fundamental Baptist in that area of the city. In 2003 we started our third church in the southeast corner of the city, and we are currently working in that work.
What has God called you to do
as missionaries? What are your doctrines and position on the issues? Our Doctrine - This page
will give you a very brief overview of our stance on doctrine, and some of the
major issues in Christianity. What mission board are you under? We are not under any mission board but rather we prefer to take a more biblical approach and be under a local church.
Why we are not under a mission board
What do you want from me, a visitor to your website and a pastor of a local church in the United States?Very simply, I would like for you to give me a chance to come and present our ministry in Mexico City in your church, and for you to consider me for financial and prayer support. How to get in
contact with us Why should you support us?(1) We are fundamental missionaries in Mexico City. We are not neo-evangelical. We reject compromise and stand for the fundamentals of the faith in an age when many missionaries will go just anywhere for money. We do not go to Charismatic churches. We do not go to convention churches, such as the Southern Baptist Convention. We refuse support from liberal churches that are not biblically sound. We do not knowingly go to churches or Missions conferences that are unsound. (See Where we go and don't go) We are very strict about our supporters, and where we go to canvas for funds. This restricts us and keeps us from getting a lot of support that other missionaries easily can pick up. (2) We have experience. We are both fluent in Spanish (my wife is a native Mexican). I preach and write fluently in Spanish, and according to the natives my Spanish is close enough for me to pass for a Mexican talking to another Mexican on the phone. I have a Bachelor's degree in Missions from Bob Jones University, as well as Masters degrees in Bible and another in Education. Many missionaries today do not pay the price of preparation. They do not have the Bible necessary to do the job on the field. I have been in the ministry of missionary since 1983. We organized our church with the government, and helped (through our lawyers) in the process of formulating the new religious law in 1992 in Mexico. (3) We have a clear focus on the mission of God. Today most ministers don't have a clear focus on the work of God. God's work is to evangelize the lost, and then disciple the converts in a local church so that they do the same. Everything else is secondary. Church planting and evangelism is the focus of the will and work of God. We put the major emphasis on this and all else is minor beside it. Without sound fundamental local churches, the work of God will fail, and all the other ministries that men invent will cease to have their host from which they leech the life out of. (4) We chart a clear course with our ministry. Today many ministries are simply confused about what is biblical. Everybody and their brother is "a ministry", doing everything from printing, housing missionaries, graphics artists, video production, Scripture memorization, Bible institutes, to AWANA clubs missionaries. We understand that the instrument or method that God gave us for doing His will is the local church. Because of this we refrain from involving ourselves extensively in other types of ministries. We concentrate on evangelism and church planting as THE way to do the work of God. (5) We have a wide range of ministries that we perform from our local church. We do mainly evangelism and church planting. But we also have a website both in English and Spanish. We have on both sides of the website a directory of Christian reference works for Pastors and Christian workers. The Spanish side is very needful because most Mexican (and Spanish speaking) pastors do not have resources needed to buy good reference books. I constantly write short books (40-80 pages) which I post in PDF format for anyone to see, use, and download for free. I also print paper copies which we give away (we do not sell them) as we have funds to do so. Our Mexican church on the field pays for most of this. I also do counseling. (6) We need support. Many missionaries today have monthly incomes of $5,000 to $10,000 dollars. To this they add a work fund income of up to $5,000 more. While this missionaries have no problems economically (although they squeal loudly about how poor they are), they have disqualified themselves from the ministry because of their greed. Our finances and budget are public (Our Budget, Support Level, and Finances, Our Financial Information for 2004), not hidden under the supposedly secure blanket of a mission board overseeing them. This is the fox guarding the henhouse. The mission board lives economically off of their missionaries, and therefore it is to the mission boards benefit that their missionaries salaries are inflated. They have neatly kept the situation hidden under "experts" at the mission board doing the evaluation and support level setting. We would ask for your consideration for financial support, or at least to further investigate our ministry, inviting us to come and present it in your church. Visits:
