How do I insert a Bible text into another program, say Microsoft Word? There are a few important points to make sure you understand before we show this. First of all, TW will not insert anything into any program if it is not running. YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE THEWORD RUNNING IN THE BACKGROUND (it doesn't have to be the active application to do this, but it must be running). The second important point is that you choose what Bible version you are inserting by establishing it as the default Bible version.
Here you set the default Bible version by: (1) Select that Bible version in the BibleView window. (2) Left click on the down arrow (triangle) in the upper left hand corner of the BibleView window. Note that there is a colored triangle beside the current reference, version, and "Bible View" that governs the window's properties (this is not what we want), and under that there is a non-colored triangle that is on the same line as the Bible versions (this is the one we click on). Here there is an option "Set as default" (Bible version abbreviation). This is where we set the default Bible version.
The third important point is that you must have activated the Clipboard monitoring from within TW.
Actually inserting a Bible reference into another program. (Ctrl+Shift+V Method) [#CtrlAltV] This is very simple, and it works in all other Windows programs (from what I can see). There are five steps to doing this. (Note: Before this shortcut keystroke was Control Alt V, but in the most recent versions it has been changed to Ctrl+Shift+V to avoid conflicts.) 1.) Write out the Bible reference. For example, write John 3:16. You can use all kinds of abbreviations and combinations, and TW will read and understand the majority of them. For example, write John 3:16, 21-22; Mt. 1:3,5,7; Luk 2:2 2.) Now highlight with the cursor all of these Bible references. John 3:16, 21-22; Mt. 1:3,5,7; Luk 2:2 TW will handle all of them in one pass, just don't put other text between the Bible references. 3.) Press Ctrl-C. This places the references into the Windows Clipboard so TW can find it.. 4.) Now press Ctrl-Alt-V This tells TW to expand these text references in the Windows Clipboard to their full verse length. 5.) Now press Ctrl-V. This inserts your references into whatever Windows program you want. This works with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, etc. Anything that you can Ctrl-V (Paste text) into, you can use with TW.
Alternative for selectively inserting verses into another program. (Selectively copying verses) An alternative for the above method is to activate watching the clipboard, and copy and then selectively copy verses. Before I explain this, let's just set up an example. You are studying a systematic theology, and your copy is not in TW (which within TW the verses will be detected and just passing the cursor over them you can see the Bible tooltip popups). This is an example text from Binney - Theological Compend (1875) on his chapter on the Existence of God.
You see the Bible references here, but it is not in TW, so we want to see what each passage is, and only copy what you believe to be the "best" references. With TW running in the background, you select and copy to the Windows clipboard part of the text you want to check the Bible references on. Note that I deliberately selected text with non-standard verse references to show TW works very well with even non-standard Bible references. Here in the second section highlighted, is Psa. xix. 1. These are really non-standard (the standard version would be Psa. 19:1). Let's copy it to the clipboard, and TW should popup the verses to see them.
Here is the popup screen. Not that there are options "[Copy][Go][to list]" after each verse reference. These options allow you to copy the current verse in the popup to the Windows clipboard (or go to it in the Bible window, or add it to a TW Verse list). |
