Menu overview

File | View | Tools | Window | Help

Note: Costas is changing the program all the time, updating some things, moving others, and adding new features, so some of these menu options may disappear and news appear depending on the version of the program you have. I made this page with 3.0.0.846 on June 2009.

There are basically 5 main menu options in the main menu tree: File, View, Tools, Window, Help. Note that there are two other menus on this bar, the formatting window bar.

and the view options bar.

Note that you can grab any of these on the 4 dots at the beginning of the bar and arrange them however you want on any line of the menu or free floating.

If they are turned off (you don't see them), then go to View, Toolbars (which we will cover in a minute) to click them back into view.

New User module - You can make your own user modules. These are going to be very easy to make in TW. You can also make a new Bible version, but this will be a regular text file, and you will need to edit it in another program to do so.

Preferences - Clicking here will allow you to edit the programs general preferences.

General - General Options

Startup Options - You can set TW to start up with Windows, and to start minimized if you want (or minimize to Windows tray).

Auto-update options - This will automatically update the program.

View Options - This sets how the mouse wheel reacts with the windows, or the program ignores the mouse wheel.

Clipboard Monitoring -

File -> Preferences -> Clipboard Monitoring (Tab).

TW has a nifty watching the clipboard function in which anytime there is something that looks like a Bible reference in the clipboard buffer, TW will popup a window with that text.

This dialog changes various settings related to this function.

Maximum Clipboard Text Size (KB) - This sets how much of the verses you will see. Note that TW will recognize most abbreviations of the Bible, and even some really difficult combinations, John 3:11-12, 14; 4:3...

This option will allow you to control how much memory is allowed for this function.

Note: There are several options (in blue). "Copy" will clear the clipboard and copy just that text to the clipboard, "Go" will move the Bible Window to that text, and "To List" will copy it to you verse list.

Bible Text - This will control which Bible version will be displayed.

Not that there are two special options here, first the Default, is what is set as the default Bible version. See How do I change the Bible version for the Bible verse tooltips? for setting a new default Bible version.

The second one is whatever Bible version is currently in the Bible View Window.

Clipboard Windows placement - The controls where the popup Bible text window will appear on the screen.

Auto close clipboard monitor window after x seconds - This sets how long the Bible text popup will remain on your screen.

Cancel auto close if mouse hovers over window - This will cancel the auto close if you hover your mouse over the window (so you can read them without worrying about the window closing on you).

Auto close window on mouse movement - This will make the window auto close if you move the mouse.

Disable clipboard monitoring - Why would you want to disable this? Because frankly sometimes it gets in the way. If you are making a module or copying and pasting from one source to another, every time you copy the little window will popup. This will allow you to disable it or reinstate it.

Bible Texts -

This tab allows you to set which Bible versions are showing up on the Bible Version selector bar of the Bible Window.

You can specify a font and size for the Bible version, as well as set the order which they will be shown (checking the "Save order of texts" box at top). If this option is not set, then TW will place the most recently used Bible on the bar.

Fonts - This TAB set your default fonts for Bibles and Modules. Note that it is not recommended to change these values. Some modules will have Greek and Hebrew Text in them, and these are the values that are suggested by Costas.

Print - This prints a range from the Bible.

Import Personal Notes - This is for backwards compatibility to import Personal notes from the older versions of TW.

Language - This sets the language options for the program. Note that you will need to download the correct language file you want for the program and copy that file (*.lng) to the THEWORD program working directory (usually C:\Programs\THEWORD). Go to http://www.theword.gr/en/index.php/w/download to download individual language packages (the language file is included in these packages).

Exit - Exit the program (or click in the [X] in the upper right hand corner of the program window).

View

Toolbars - This menu option turns on or off (visual or not) various parts of the program that appear on the menu bars.

Bible Tree - This toggles the Bible Tree window (F8 hotkey).

Search the Bible F3 - This toggles the Bible View Window.

Search Books F2 - This toggles the Book View Window.

Layout - This is how you "save and restore" a layout of the program. Please see this page for further information on Layouts.
