How to Create a Book Module
|
This program can be daunting at times because it is so powerful. But at times (usually the beginning user) this power comes at a price. You find a good book you want on the Internet and download it and install it into THEWORD, but when you open the word, it asks you if you want to install this new book into the current layout, and so you say yes. But when you TW finishes opening you cannot find it. Problem - You installed a new module, and you didn't get the popup asking to add it to the current layout. This problem will happen because of one of two issues. First of all your installation didn't work. It did not install the module into one of TW's directories that it searches for modules in. You can find these directory locations (they may be different from one installation of TW on one machine to another) by following my Manual Module Install notes. If you are sure you installed it right, you will need to look for the module in one of these directories with a Windows Explorer window. A second issue for not getting the popup is that the module already existed on your computer, and this is why it will not ask you to add it to the current layout.
Problem - You installed the new module, and you don't see it. It is very important to remember that the module creator has set the module's name (tab abbreviation) and some module creators may not name it what you are expecting. When you see the popup on starting TW, do not just click Accept! Note (or better write down the tab abbreviation) if it is not what you would expect it to be. Looking for the wrong name is always going to end up empty.
Okay, let's say you have installed the module and that is not at issue. But a month later you know you have a book on let's say "hell", but you cannot remember where it is? The first thing is if you remember the layout, open that layout and manually look for the book in the Book Selector bar in the Book View window.
The book I am wanting is not in these books. It is by a guy named Bonner. So let's open a layout I made called "All" which has all of my modules in it.
In the field to the right of the green set of books (I circled the search field) (Shift F2), you type in a few letters of the book's title, and those books in that layout that match it will be presented as options below (in the brown popup bar in this graphic). If you will notice, this brown popup bar has both the tab, and the actual filename as well as the Author field all from the module properties, so that any word in any of those fields will get a match here. Let's search for something else. Here is another search for Holy Spirit.
And I have these works on my computer right now that have "Holy" in any of these fields. Not the Jukes book "Names of God" does not have it in the filename, but it is in the full title "Holy Scripture".
