| David Cox's Support and Software Recommendation PageFree Full Fledged Working Programs - http://gljakal.altervista.org/freedesk.php There are pirated copies of major software floating around, but as a Christian this is really against the moral principles of us Christians, so they are off limits. But there are people putting out knock offs of real powerful programs and are making them freeware, that is, legally you can download and use them without breaking any laws. The authors of these programs make them public domain. This page has download links for a number of these programs, freeware open source versions of programs very similar to Microsoft Office programs, 2D & 3D Graphics software, Audio programs, antivirus, Developers programs (C++), etc. Why pay when you can legally get something very similar for free? Recommended SoftwareTotal Commander - This is a knock off of the old Norton Commander program. It is excellent. You have two panels which represents two different folders on your system. You navigate by clicking on folders. You can preset certain folders, you can mass rename files, you can transfer files from one system to another (with a null modem cable) or via a network connection. You can enter a zip (or any other) archive like it was a folder. You can pack and unpack archive files (zip). You can synchronize two directories and include or exclude their subfolders. You can bring up a FTP site (like the IRS publications website) and download files by marking and copying them from one folder to another. They have had 13 million visits to their website! Snagit - This program is a simple screen capture program that can capture part or all the screen, or a window, and save it as an image or as text. Excellent program with a lot of options. You can download a trial version. $39.95 http://www.techsmith.com/ ACDSee - This is a graphics browser that is excellent. Note that you can do limited editing and retouch on images, convert images, as well as make HTML photo albums with this program. If you use photo enhancer, change something, and resave the JPG, it has an excellent algorithm that reduces the size better than any other image editing program I have seen. $49.99 http://www.acdsystems.com/English/Products/ACDSee/index.htm PowerBible - This is a simple Bible program that is excellent. It has various Bible versions, including Greek and Hebrew, commentaries, and various other useful tools. $19.00 (for two copies) http://www.powerbible.com/ Clickbook - This is a super valuable program that takes the printing output from any windows program, turns it 90 degrees to the side, reduces it, and then put four sheets to a page, one and four on the front, two and three on the back. (It makes booklets like this up to about 60 pages or more depending on other factors.) $49 http://bluesquirrel.com/ClickBook/ NecroFile - This utility program simply erases in a secure manner files on your PC. When you delete a file on your PC, it is not erased, but simply the first letter of the name of the file is erased, and the file system "does not see it anymore". There are gads of programs to "resurrect" these files, including the Windows desktop trash can included in windows. This program will securely erase the programs (either still active in your file system or already erased). It works by writing 0's and 1's over the actual file space.
I would highly recommend it when you get rid of anything you had information on,
like a hard disk or an old computer. SeeThrough Clock - I have a problem of forgetting about the time when I am on the computer. Unfortunately, even though I have a regular clock on the wall, and I have the time in the system tray, I still forget. Also my mind does not seem to want to instantly recognize the time on a digital display , like 11:45 p.m. So I found this little handy freeware clock. It is completely transparent except for the hours and the hands, and you can see, click, and edit the application beneath it as if it wasn't even there. Very handy, very nice, extremely customizable, and did I say it was freeware? Completely free! http://www2.odn.ne.jp/hamataro/ThClk/indexe.htm Total Recorder - This site (High Criteria) has several good products but the one I like and use is the Total Recorder. It simply does what Windows fails at doing, recording the audio whatever is going on on your computer. My main use for this program is in preparing slide presentations. $11.95 http://www.highcriteria.com/products.htm Goldwave - This program is an audio studio for manipulating audio files. I use this program also for my slide presentations. It is an excellent program for slicing and dicing an audio file into parts or putting on back together from many parts. $45 http://www.goldwave.com/ Giant AntiSpyware - Unfortunately Spyware is a great problem in our day. Many people do not know this but if your computer is connected to the internet AT ALL, you are a target. From visiting the Microsoft site you page can download a graphic that has been infected by a virus and you can get your computer infected. There are "backdoors" in Windows that allow another computer through the internet to gain access to your computer and see what you type in for passwords, your files, or to do damage. The only protection again these things are updating Windows constantly, and even then, hope Microsoft finds and updates these things before the malicious people out there exploit them. Spyware usually sits in the background and sends information about you to whomever, usually companies wanting to target some special group. Some are keyloggers that record every keystoke you type. AntiVirus software will not currently stop most of these spyware threats. They are considered another category of software or problem. I do not know if this company will continue selling this antispyware software because Microsoft has recently bought the program (and the company) from them and is including it in windows. http://www.giantcompany.com/ MailWasher Pro - This is a simple little program that will open your email accounts on the internet, read what is there, download the first 37 lines of each email, and then use a sophisticated set of rules to mark each email as good or bad (spam). All emails from friends can be easily added to the friends database, so that they always get through to you, and you can add the spammer's email address to a blacklist database. You can also bounce the spam back at them as though your email address was none existent (supposing they have a valid return email address). All in all another excellent program $37 http://www.firetrust.com/ Whizfolders Organizer Pro - This is another one of those unheard of programs that I have come across and have come to love with use. This is simply an organizer program for making and maintaining outlines. I have used MSWord outline function, and did not like it. This allows outline functions, as well as inserting graphics, photos, and hyperlinks to the internet or itself. One of the nice extras in this program is the watch clipboard function. Open up an outline, then set it to watch the clipboard, and then go to your internet Explorer. Whatever you want in the outliner just copy it to the clipboard, URLs, actual text, etc. Whizfolders does not popup except for the first copy, and then you can set it to be silent. Everything goes into Whizfolders, in separate outline points. $39 30 day free tryout! http://www.whizfolders.com/?aid=rabt PaintShop Pro - This is a shareware version of Corel Paintshop. It is in many ways better and equal in power and ease of use. It only costs $60 versus several hundred for Corel Paintshop. http://www.corel.com Virus Norton Antivirus - This is the most widest known and accepted antivirus software. http://www.symantec.com/downloads/ But check out their better competitors at this page http://anti-virus-software-review.toptenreviews.com/ Spyware Comparisons & Reviews Wacom - digital pad - www.wacom.com File Identification Websites: Sometimes you need to find out what program a particular exe file belongs to, or what it does, or if it is a virus or spyware. These sites help identify and explain what each file in Windows and many other programs are.
