I. Sin. Luke 5:31 the well need not a physician, but the sick
A. Everybody has sinned. (you must admit it)
Ecclesiastes 7:20 For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.
Romans 3:9 they are all under sin; 10 There is none righteous, no, not one: 12 there is none that doeth good, no, not one. 23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Acts 10:34 God is no respecter of persons:
James 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
Galatians 3:11 But that no man is justified by the law
B. Consequence of sin is death (physical-eternal)
Roman 6:23 For the wages of sin is death;
Roman 5:12 so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
Isaiah 3:11 Woe unto the wicked! it shall be ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be given him.
Ezekiel 18:4 the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
C. We are under the condemnation of God.
John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
(you go to hell if you don’t believe)
Hebrews 9:27 it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: (there is no purgatory)
II. Repentance. (you are in one road going one direction, and because of your decision, you completely turn around and abandon that road for the opposite)
Luke 13:5 except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
Acts 17:30 God now commandeth all men every where to repent:
Psalm 34:18 The LORD saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
A. Salvation is by grace through faith.
Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us
Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. (you are not saved if you work for it)
B. Jesus is God
Matthew 1:23 a virgin shall be with child … they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
John 1:14 the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) …
C. Jesus is the sacrifice in my place
Hebrews 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
1 Peter 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
1 Peter 1:18 know that ye were not redeemed … 19 with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
2 Corinthians 5:21 he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
D. Jesus is the only Savior.
Isaiah 43:11 I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour.
1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Luke 2:11 born this day … a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
(if you add works, other mediators, then you are not saved)
1 John 5:11 God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. (you have to have to be saved)
John 6:47 He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
John 3:3 Jesus answered … Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. 15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. (you have to believe him to be saved)
John 1:12 as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
(believing and accepting the person of Christ is necessary)
Romans 10:9 if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.(confession is necessary)
Matthew 10:32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. 33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.
(baptism is a public confession of Christ)
Proverbs 27:1 Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.
