About 25 miles from Mexico City is an active volcano, Popocatepetl, or Popo for short. In the years we have been in Mexico City, we have had ash fallings. Volcanic ash is very nasty stuff, full of sulphur which when mixed with water makes sulphuric acid (eats the finish on cars real nice). From many places in Mexico City you can see Popo and Ixta (a mountain range to the north of Popo), and most of the time they are covered with snow, but you can only see them if the pollution is very low, otherwise you only see a gray haze.
