I do not see reprobation in the Scriptures. It is a construct of Calvinism. Scriptures from Genesis to Revelation place the destiny of man in his own hands, and makes repeated and earnest appeals to man to repent from his sin and believe in faith to God. This is not a farce of God, taunting an "inabled man" (Total Inability) with the view of eternal salvation when God knows God has elected the vast majority to perdition. This goes totally against the general "grain" of Scriptures which always offer man, and places his decision in faith or rejection of Christ as THE deciding element of all eternity in deciding that man's fate.

CHAPTER XVII. Of The Perseverance of the Saints. (from Westminster Confession of Faith)
I. They whom God hath accepted in his Beloved, effectually called and sanctified by his Spirit, can neither totally nor finally fall away from the state of grace; but shall certainly persevere therein to the end, and be eternally saved.
II. This perseverance of the saints depends, not upon their own free-will, but upon the immutability of the decree of election, flowing from the free and unchangeable love of God the Father; upon the efficacy of the merit and intercession of Jesus Christ; the abiding of the Spirit and of the seed of God within them; and the nature of the covenant of grace; from all which ariseth also the certainty and infallibility thereof.
III. Nevertheless they may, through the temptations of Satan and of the world, the prevalence of corruption remaining in them, and the neglect of the means of their perseverance, fall into grievous sins; ad for a time continue therein: whereby they incur God's displeasure, and grieve his Holy Spirit; come to be deprived of some measure of their graces and comforts; have their hearts hardened, and their consciences wounded; hurt and scandalize others, and bring temporal judgments upon themselves.

Bruce
There are two dynamics here that balance one the other. First there is the surety of our salvation that God gives us, and then because of the mixed nature of the local churches (wheat and tares), God exhorts the church to work out their salvation with fear and trembling, a warning to "Christians". The key point here is that the Christian that does not grow and progress in his Christian life is not a true Christian. This growth is linked to the fellowship of the brethren in a local church. Yes we are saved and can never lose our salvation, but for the Christian who sits on his laurels and does nothing in his Christian life, this life style is a direct indication that their is no true life in that Christian even though he may like Israel enjoy the blessings of God for a season. 1 John speaks a lot of identifying who is a true child of God. For the suffering Christian who is struggling with sin, God will never forsake him. For the confident "Christian" who rests in his confidence without any fruit in his life, God warns him that he is under danger of hell fire. The point is not that he will lose his salvation but rather that his life is fraud, and he has not yet truly grasp the truth of salvation.
Key Concept of Assurance-Warning: The professing "Christian" who does not spiritually progress and ultimately produce fruit has no assurance of his salvation. His life disproves his professed fraudulent faith.
Key Understandings: Church is like the Wheat and Tares (Mat. 13:24-51) in that saved and unsaved are indistinguishable currently, and it is not for us to separate them, but to demand all that claim to be Christian to abide by the norms of God. Sower Mat. 13:1-9, 18-23, the difference between saved and unsaved is their reception of the seed (the gospel). Some receive it, but are not really saved in the end. The vine and branches John 15:1-12, both good and bad branches draw some life from the vine, but those who separate themselves from this life are burned (thrown into hell).
Note the differences between a Christian who has a problem with sin in his life and is fighting against sin (this is every true Christian) and a supposed "Christian" who has no will to fight sin nor to obey God's will. In John 10:27-29 Jesus says that His sheep hear his voice and follow him.
Sealed by the Holy Spirit - Key verse is 2 Cor. 1:21-22 The person that establishes (makes firm) us is Christ and God. He does this by sealing us with the Holy Spirit. We seal things for two principle purposes: (1) to show who is the owner, and (2) to preserve, or for purity. Medicine has a seal to show it is pure and has not been contaminated.
