Why should we want to be holy?
Reasons why we should be holy

Oswald Chambers said, "Holiness, not happiness, is the chief end of man."

Matthew Henry said, "No other attribute of God scares sinners like holiness."

Psalm 96:9 O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth.

God sees holiness as something of beauty, pleasant and pleasing to the sight. God wants us to adore him through "putting on" the clothes of holiness.

Reasons why we should be holy

We should understand that the word "holy" means separated from what is not God's will (evil and sin), but also separated, dedicated, serving, and following unto what is God's will.

I. Sin hurts us, and causes us problems.

Deuteronomy 10:12-13 And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, 13 To keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good?

Our dedication to God is for our own good. Sin is deceptive, making us think it is for our good, but it is not. It is for our harm.

II. We are God's special cherished possession, therefore we must act according to what we are.

III. God is holy, so we must be like him to live and commune with him.

Hebrews 12:10 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.

1 Peter 1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

Holiness is Christ living in and through us. It is as if Christ were back on earth, speaking, acting, praying, in our lives, with those whom we have contact with day by day.

IV. Holiness is essential for salvation.

Hebrews 12:14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
