This website was created and is maintained by Missionary David Cox, laboring in Mexico City, Mexico since 1985 in evangelism and church planting. Our principle work is in evangelism and church planting, and I pastor our church here on the field. Please visit our donation page to help us in our ministry of providing a good religious resource library for all of Christianity. We receive no set salary, just monthly donations from people who believe in what we are doing, and it is our conviction that what we offer by way of the ministry should be free of charge ("freely you have received, freely give"). There is a lot of erroneous thinking and teaching relating to spiritual gifts, and one of them is that everybody has to have the gift of speaking in tongues.
1 Corinthians 12:8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
Scripture teaches that the gifts of God are given according to the will of the Spirit, as the Spirit wills, and that this distribution is one gift to one man, and another gift to another. Apparently nobody has all the gifts, and there is no universal gift except those more important and generalized gifts of salvation, and the presence and blessing of the Holy Spirit. We cannot assume that speaking in the tongue is in the same class as these two "gifts". I use the word "gifts" for salvation and the Holy Spirit, but in reality it is out of place. We are talking about apples and oranges here. Salvation is a gift in the sense that it establishes our salvation relationship with God. The Holy Spirit is given to us as the earnest or first deposit of that salvation. But when we speak of the gifts of the Spirit, these are a result of salvation so salvation is not or should not be really classified as a gift of the Spirit resulting from salvation. It causes these spirit gifts, and is not counted among them.
Spiritual gifts should be understood as a special endowment of talent, ability, desire, wisdom, etc. in which the person with this gift uses it in a ministry. This would be the correct understanding of a spiritual gift.

The David Cox Family - We are independent Baptist missionaries serving our Lord in Mexico City Mexico since 1984. I wanted to show you my family and our growing kids. Gal 6:5-10 For every man shall bear his own burden. 6 Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things. 7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. 9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. 10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.
Our Working Principle - I believe God's rule is that everything is done for free for the brethren, but the brethren when mature, realize that ministry costs, and those who receive direct benefit of a ministry should cooperate voluntarily and of a willing good attitude with that ministry. Basically I do not see any ministry as valid (biblical) except a local church, and with the exception of Christian missions, every valid ministry should be supported by those under that ministry in a single locality. We, being missionaries, operate on a broader scale of ministering to more than one church, and this is the only exception to "only local donations to your own home church". Even so we seek to operate on a free basis, with others giving as God moves their hearts, and not for profit.
We need to define exactly what is the manifestation of the Holy Spirit. God's Spirit is a spirit of holiness, which means that the character of God's Spirit, what the Holy Spirit causes in things, places, and people where it touches or dwells is holiness.
A short definition of holiness is twofold: (1) Holiness is doing God's will, the way, the timing, and with the attitude that God desires in us as we do it. (2) We stop sinning, which is the opposite of God's will.
