Bibliology - The science of Scripture. This is the study of the Bible as unit, what it is, how we got it, why some books are included in "Scripture" or "the Bible" and others are not (Canon), how to understand it (Hermeneutics).

Canon (Canonicity) - deals with the reason why certain books are included in the Bible. Apocrypha - are books which first century Christians accepted as having some spiritual value, but they are not inspired of God. They were comparable John Bunyan's "Pilgrims Progress". Pseudographi - The pseudo (false or fake) graphi (writings) are the books supposedly written by biblical characters which are not accepted as really being written by them.

This website was created and is maintained by Missionary David Cox, laboring in Mexico City, Mexico since 1985 in evangelism and church planting. Our principle work is in evangelism and church planting, and I pastor our church here on the field. Please visit our donation page to help us in our ministry of providing a good religious resource library for all of Christianity. We receive no set salary, just monthly donations from people who believe in what we are doing, and it is our conviction that what we offer by way of the ministry should be free of charge ("freely you have received, freely give"). So, it is only by your generous donations that we are able to minister and provide what we provide, and keep this website up and running. Since 1993 when I started my website, we have had a total of about 6 people total donate through the website and each of their donations was around $25. Please donate!

Analogy of the Faith - This refers to the fact of the supernatural intervention of God in making sure that every part and parcel of the Bible is in supernatural agreement with the truth of God such that no one part contradicts any other, and there is a divine unity that "holds" all parts into conformity with the divine will of God.

Inspiration - Inspiration refers to the quality of Scripture being "God-breathed", that is, that the Bible is actually a product of the mouth of God, it is the very words of God, and so it has a special quality that no other book has. Verbal Plenary - refers to the inspiration of the Bible, and has special reference to the extent of inspiration, it is not just the general concepts and general message that is inspired, but inspiration extends down to the very words, grammatical structure, forms, and technical aspects of the Bible, all of these were closely guarded by God when the Bible was humanly recorded so that these parts of words and speech are also inspired by God and without error, the very words God has divinely chosen to communicate to us.

The Great City of Mexico City - We minister in Mexico City. By some counts, we have 40 million of the 100 million people who live in Mexico. It is a tremendous city. Through our Spanish website pages, people from all over our city know about us, and some come every Sunday from over 2 hours away (2 hours on several different buses and subways). The reason they come according to what they tell us, is that the doctrine of our weekly services is pure meat. While other pastors and churches give fluff and puff, they find spiritual nourishment in our ministry. Some people come periodically to get the free sermon CDs and books and tracts even though they cannot come every week. All of this operates because of donations from people who believe in us, in our ministry, and believe that fundamental, sound doctrine and ministers are of great need around the world. Your donations and gifts make this possible. Please consider giving even occasionally to our ministry.

Revelation - refers to the momentary communication between God and individual men of God (prophets) when God first reveals His message to mankind. This revelation was consummated in the giving of the Holy Scriptures, and today there is not a continuing on going revelation of new material to us.

World Wide Ministry - Frankly I am a (missionary) pastor working in Mexico City, Mexico. It was never my intention to try to "reach the world" with my ministry. I don't really feel that is what God called me to do at the beginning, but to be faithful here in Mexico City. But this ministry which God has called me to has taken some interesting turns, and as I have made public our ministry, I find myself communicating and ministering to people all over the Spanish speaking world, as well as some very unlikely places around the globe. My website is half in English, half in Spanish. A pastor of a local church which has a seminary in South Africa wrote saying that they use my site extensively to give their preacher boys a full religious reference library so that they can minister better. Seminaries and Bible Institutes in English and Spanish speaking countries use my books that I have written as text books for classes. When you support our ministry, you are helping us provide these services for a wide range of Christians all over the world. Please consider helping us with the financial burden of keeping all this up and growing!

We have visitors from non-English and non-Spanish speaking countries (South Korea, Netherlands, Brazil, Malaysia, Portugal, Germany, Finland, Greece, Italy, France, Switzerland, Uganda, Japan, Syria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Kuwait, Pakistan, etc.).

Sufficiency of Scripture - refers to the fact that all that God wants of us in respect to salvation and the Christian life and ministry, God has revealed in His Word, and it is sufficient for all that we need. This was one of the key points of the Reformation, and they referred to it as Sola Escritura.

16.10 Hermeneutics (Principles of Interpretation) <top of page>

 16.00 | 01 | 02 | 03 | 04 | 05 | 06 | 07 | 08 | 09 | 10 | 11 | 12 | 13 | 14 | 14.01 | 14.02 | 15 | 16 | 17 | 18  | 19

Hermeneutics - refers to the principles of correctly interpreting the Word of God such that we arrive at the understanding of God's word that God wants us to have. These principles should guide us away from doctrinal error and misinterpretation. Here the key concept is exegesis (the drawing out of a text its meaning) and NOT eisegesis (reading into a text a presupposed interpretation that cannot legitimately be gotten out of that text).
