Some religious people say that it is impossible for a person to know whether or not he actually possesses eternal life until he dies and stands before God. But is this the Bible\rquote s picture? Do the followers of Christ grope through life in darkness and uncertainty, never knowing whether they are saved or lost?\par Let\rquote s see what God\rquote s Word says.\par \b 1.What purpWER\fs36 : \fs27 C\par \cf0\par \b0\fs22 In terms of decisions,God is just. When all the facts are known, it will be proven that God has\par never made an unjust decision. Righteousness deals with God's relationships. God is in a\par "right" relationship with all of creation\emdash but not all of creation is in a right relationship with\par Him. Patience marks God's attitude toward people and events. The apostle Peter says,\ldblquote The\par Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering\par [patient] toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to\par repentance\rdblquote (\cf3\ul 2Pe_3:9\cf0\ulnone ). But underlying just decisions, right relationships and a patient\par attitude is God's most basic characteristic\emdash love. The Word translated \ldblquote love\rdblquote as it applies to\par God is agape which indicates an "unconditional love.\rdblquote God's unconditional love is the\par core element of His character and is the source from which everything else springs.\fs20\par \cf2\b\fs36 \par 2.A\fs27 NSWER\fs36 : \fs27 B\cf0\par \cf3\ul\b0\fs22 Joh_3:16\cf0\ulnone tells us that God's unconditional love is not limited to any particular group of\par people. Instead, it encompasses the "world" which includes both saint and sinner,\par Christian and pagan, believer and unbeliever. God's love knows no racial distinction,\par national boundaries or creedal differences.\par \cf2\par \b\fs36 3.A\fs27 NSWER\fs36 : \fs27 D\cf0\par \b0\fs22 God has certainly given us a beautiful world in which to live. He gives, as well, the basic elements\par from which not only our needs but many of our wants can be met. For those who\par have placed their faith in Jesus, there is even the promise of \cf3\ul Phi_4:19\cf0\ulnone , "And my God\par shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus." He even meets\par our spiritual needs through the forgiveness of sins. But the greatest love gift of all was the gift\par of His Son's life according to \cf3\ul Rom_5:8\cf0\ulnone .Notice that it doesn't say that God waited for\par us to get our lives straightened out first.Instead, "while we were still sinners, Christ\par died for us." While we were still rebelling against Him, God gave His Son to die on the\par cross for our sins.No greater proof of His love can be given than that.\par \cf2\par \b\fs36 4.A\fs27 NSWER\fs36 : \fs27 B\cf0\par \b0\fs22 Health, happiness, safety and self-fulfillment are all good things and certainly not against\par God's will for our lives. But apart from salvation (being reconciled to God and headed for\par heaven), these other items are for this short lifetime at best. God desires something even\par greater for us; He desires for us to be saved. Only when we receive Christ as Savior do we\par have the assurance that we can enjoy these other good things for eternity.\fs20\par \par \cf1\b\fs28 LESSON 2\cf0\par \par \cf2\fs36 1.A\fs27 NSWER\fs36 : \fs27 C\cf0\par \b0\fs22 In its very basic state, sin is a broken relationship with God.When God told Adam and Eve\par that if they ate of the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil, they would die; He wasn\rquote t referring\par merely to their physical condition (Adam actually lived to be at least 930 years old). God\par meant that the spiritual bond they shared would be broken (spiritual death) that eventually\par resulted in physical death. The things we do wrong are a consequence of this broken\par relationship\emdash not the cause. Although it\rquote s true that God does not hold individuals accountable\par for their sins until they reach the age of understanding right from wrong (\cf3\ul Jon_4:11\cf0\ulnone ),\par acts of sin occur long before that. In fact,David indicates that the basic state of sin begins at\par conception. When he said, \ldblquote In sin my mother conceived me,\rdblquote he is not indicating that conception\par is an act of sin, but rather, as soon as life begins in the womb, the conceived child\par has a separated relationship with God.\fs20\par \par \cf2\b\fs36 2.A\fs27 NSWER\fs36 : \fs27 C\cf0\par \b0\fs22 The size of a sin is not important in determining whether it\rquote s a sin or not.Whether, from the\par human perspective, it is a major sin like murder or a minor sin such as telling a lie, the\par essence of the sin is still the same\emdash rebellion against God. Everyone in some fashion commits\par sins. Even Christians sometimes act in rebellion against God\rquote s standards which is why\par \cf3\ul 1Jo_1:9\cf0\ulnone (\ldblquote If we confess our sins,He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse\par us from all unrighteousness\rdblquote ) was written to Christians.\fs20\par \par \cf2\b\fs36 3.A\fs27 NSWER\fs36 : \fs27 B\cf0\par \b0\fs22 Feelings can be manipulated so that even the most hideous sin can be excused. Don\rquote t trust\par your feelings; God\rquote s Word says, \ldblquote For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God\rdblquote\par (\cf3\ul Rom_3:23\cf0\ulnone ). If you don\rquote t feel like a sinner, the apostle John says that it\rquote s only because\par you\rquote re deceiving yourself (\cf3\ul 1Jo_1:8\cf0\ulnone ).\fs20\par \par \cf2\b\fs36 4.A\fs27 NSWER\fs36 : \fs27 B\cf0\par \b0\fs22 Sin does bring about sickness (such as sexually transmitted diseases) and, at times, poverty\par (consider the amount of money lost in gambling or wasted in the pursuit of immoral pleasures).\par But even more tragic, sin brings about death. First, spiritual death as it separates us\par from God and, eventually, physical death (\cf3\ul Rom_6:23\cf0\ulnone ). Eternal life is a gift from God\par that comes when we accept Christ as Savior and our sins are forgiven.\par \par \cf1\b\fs28 LESSON 3\cf0\par \cf2\fs36 1.A\fs27 NSWER\fs36 : \fs27 D\cf0\par \cf3\ul\b0\fs22 Heb_10:4\cf0\ulnone tells us, \ldblquote For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take\par away sins.\rdblquote The animal sacrifices in the Old Testament were only symbols of the final sacrifice\par that would someday be provided by God.This took place when Jesus, the Lamb of God,\par died for our sins. And while good works are activities that every Christian should do,\par \cf3\ul Eph_2:9\cf0\ulnone reminds us that our salvation is \ldblquote not of works, lest anyone should boast.\rdblquote In\par addition, righteous living is an expected part of a Christian\rquote s life, but Isaiah says that all our\par righteousness is like \ldblquote filthy rags\rdblquote (\cf3\ul Isa_64:6\cf0\ulnone ). Only one option could resolve God\rquote s need to\par express His love and yet remain totally just\emdash His Son, Jesus Christ.\par \par \cf2\b\fs36 2.A\fs27 NSWER\fs36 : \fs27 A\cf0\par \b0\fs22 Water baptism is a symbol of the spiritual baptism which takes place when we accept Christ\par as our Savior (\cf3\ul 1Co_12:13\cf0\ulnone ). The physical act of baptism, however, has no saving\par power and adds nothing to our salvation. In addition, observing the Law as given in the Old\par Testament is not a necessary part of our salvation either (\cf3\ul Gal_2:16\cf0\ulnone ). The purpose of\par the Law was to teach us the impossibility of meeting the standards of God apart from\par Christ. The apostle Paul says, \ldblquote Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we\par might be justified by faith\rdblquote (\cf3\ul Gal_3:24\cf0\ulnone ).Keeping the Sabbath (which was part of the\par Law) is also not a salvation issue. The Sabbath was a day of rest (as opposed to Sunday, a day\par of worship) which was to remind people that God would someday provide a spiritual rest\par that would do more than refresh their bodies \emdash it would give rest to their souls. This rest\par was fulfilled in Christ (\cf3\ul Heb_4:1-2\cf0\ulnone ).\fs20\par \par \par \cf2\b\fs36 3.A\fs27 NSWER\fs36 : \fs27 B\cf0\par \b0\fs22 The response that God desires for people to make to His offer of grace is not good works\par (see #1 above) or baptism (see #2 above).Neither is it church membership. At the appropriate\par time, these are all good responses, but before they are of any value, we must respond\par to God\rquote s offer of grace with faith (\cf3\ul Eph_2:8-9\cf0\ulnone ). Faith is simply taking God at His word.\par God says, \ldblquote But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of\par God, to those who believe in His name\rdblquote (\cf3\ul Joh_1:12\cf0\ulnone ). Our faith response is to trust that this is\par true and receive Christ as our Savior.\par \par \cf2\b\fs36 4.A\fs27 NSWER\fs36 : \fs27 A\fs36 , \fs27 C\fs36 , \fs27 D\fs36 , \fs27 E\cf0\par \b0\fs22 We are saved by grace through faith alone\emdash but the faith that saves is never alone. The\par apostle James says,\ldblquote But someone will say, \lquote You have faith, and I have works.\rquote Show me your\par faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works\rdblquote (\cf3\ul Jam_2:18\cf0\ulnone ). A saving\par faith expresses itself in a four ways: 1)Confession: agreeing with God that you are a\par sinner; 2) Repentance: not simply being sorry but being willing to turn from your sin; 3)\par Believing: accepting what God says as true; 4)Receiving: taking that final step of accepting\par God\rquote s gift of grace through Jesus.\fs20\par \par \par \cf1\b\fs28 LESSON 4\cf0\par \cf2\fs36 1.A\fs27 NSWER\fs36 : \fs27 D\cf0\par \b0\fs22 The Bible tells us many things: our duty as Christians, our responsibilities as parents, the\par reasons for our faith. But the most important thing God wants us to know is that we are\par saved through Jesus Christ. If we do not have the assurance of our salvation, we will be so\par bound by our doubts and confusion that our enthusiasm for the Kingdom of God will be\par hindered.\par \cf2\par \b\fs36 2.A\fs27 NSWER\fs36 : \fs27 A\fs36 , \fs27 B\fs36 , \fs27 C\cf0\par \b0\fs22 We do not become sinless saints after we accept Christ, but our behavior, our desires,\par even our attitudes do change. For some, these changes are immediate and radical; for others\par change is a slow process. But as \ldblquote new creation\rdblquote (\cf3\ul 2Co_5:17\cf0\ulnone ), we will not stay the same\par as we once were.As someone has said, \ldblquote Christ meets us where we are, but He loves us too\par much to leave us there.\rdblquote We also have the Holy Spirit dwelling within us (\cf3\ul Rom_8:16\cf0\ulnone ). The\par Spirit gives us the assurance through an inner peace that we truly do belong to Christ. Then,\par finally, Jesus has made his own promise. He says in \cf3\ul Rev_3:20\cf0\ulnone , \ldblquote Behold, I stand at the\par door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine\par with him, and he with Me.\rdblquote Jesus would never back down on a promise. If you have opened\par the door of your heart to Him,He will come in and give you new life (\cf3\ul Gal_2:20\cf0\ulnone ).\fs20\par \par \par \par \cf4\f2\fs23\par } ££Ü*%¸?Answer Sheet{\rtf1\ansi\ansicpg1252\deff0{\fonttbl{\f0\ftech\fcharset0 CoronetSSK;}{\f1\froman\fcharset0 Times New Roman;}{\f2\fnil\fcharset0 Georgia;}} {\colortbl ;\red0\green0\blue128;\red255\green0\blue0;\red0\green128\blue0;\red0\green0\blue0;} {\*\generator Riched20 5.40.11.2210;}\viewkind4\uc1\pard\cf1\lang1033\b\f0\fs96 \ul G\f1\fs44 etting to Heaven From Here\par \cf0\ulnone\b0\i\fs32 \cf1\b Answer Sheet\cf0\b0\par \i0\fs20\par \cf1\f2\fs23\par \b\f1\fs28 LESSON 1\cf0\par \cf2\par \fs36 1.A\fs27 NS
