FAQ Frequently Asked Questions
What does PES mean?
How do I install e-Sword into my Pocket PC?
I cannot get tooltips in the Topics.
Why are there no TOP modules in PES
How can I know when new
things are put up/changes?
PES means "Pocket E-Sword".
1. Download a copy of e-Sword to your computer
from this page.
http://www.e-sword.net/pocketpc/downloads.html
2. Once you have your Pocket PC installed and working, you should have gotten a
program with it which is the synchronize program. For my HP 1950 it is called
Microsoft ActiveSync. This is the same name used for all Pocket PC's I believe.
This program is simply a communications program between a Desktop/Laptop PC and
the PDA.
3. Run the e-Sword exe and it will active or you should have already active the
Microsoft ActiveSync program.
4. Download and run the individual modules that you want to install in your
e-Sword.
Please read Rick Meyer's Instruction page http://www.e-sword.net/pocketpc/downloads.html
Remember that your pda is a mini-computer and there are some trade-offs in using it. As far as my understanding is in e-Sword on the Pocket, e-Sword does not provide tooltips in any of their Pocket modules. Basically the TOPs (Topic Modules which is like books) are not real Access databases like in the desktop version but just simple RTF files. You should really seriously consider this. E-Sword is therefore not any different or "better" in reading these things than the same file in Pocket Word, or Pocket Acrobat PDF. There are problems here, and you should understand that DOCs and PDFs are often difficult to read on a PDA because they were not made and saved with text wrapping which makes it a disadvantage to have to move to left or right to read a complete line in a file. Here a RTF is probably better.
PES has a different treatment of books (TOPIC Modules) than the desktop version. They are just RTF files. That being the case, they will have no tooltips jumps to the verses. On this site (davidcox.com.mx) I am using PDF files instead of RTF files.
How to automatically know when this page changes: Simple (1) Use Firefox Browser. (2) Go to https://addons.mozilla.org/ (3) Search the addon modules for "update scanner", download and install it. Firefox should restart, and if it doesn't, then close Firefox and restart it. (4) Come back to this page and click the purple up arrow in the Firefox icon menu bar. This will open a side panel for Update Scanner, and add the page (the blank sheet of paper icon). Then do an update check regularly (you can set the frequency if you use auto check), and the page will show that it has been changed, as well as what is new marked in yellow highlighter.
